Material Requirements

All entries must supply a 500-word document (see elements below), explaining how it relates to the selected category. Please make sure to address key areas that judges will be assessing where relevant: innovation and collaboration, as well as shopper engagement, campaign integration, creativity and impact.

Within the case, you will be required to submit the following information:

  • Date of implementation or launch
  • Describe objectives and any challenges
  • Describe how you arrived at the insight and resulting concept
  • Describe execution
  • Impart results and impact
  • Please include a list of credits – in a separate document/file from your 500-word case – citing everyone who worked on the project. If you are a winner these credits will be published in the online winners case library.

Documents must be PDF format and a maximum of 500 words. 

Note: Creative/media agency names cannot appear anywhere in the case summary. Any documents containing agency names, logos etc. will be removed.

Visual materials

All entries must include a visual component for consideration. Summary videos are encouraged, but not mandatory.

Accepted file formats and sizes

  • Case Summary Videos must be: H.264, MP4 files, 16:9 aspect ratio (1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720, etc.) that are 500mb or less, and a running time of two minutes or less. 
  • Other campaign videos can also be uploaded to support your entry, and do not need to adhere to the two-minute limit, but must also be H.264 MP4 files that are 500mb or less in size.
  • Images must be: JPG and a maximum of 10mb each
  • Audio must be: MP3 format and a maximum of 10 mb each (AAC-LC audio up to 320 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio)

Category-specific requirements

Please refer below for required material in each category. Summary videos may stand in for the listed elements.

360 Integration

Entries must demonstrate the extent of brand content/campaign integration, and address innovation, collaboration and impact. You must submit material that will enable judges to see the extent of the integration, how the consumer experience benefits and how well the integration reinforces the brand and influences shopper behaviour. Entries must entail examples of all the different platforms included. Entrants will be judged on how well content works in each as well as cumulative impact. A brief video of any broadcast element, audio files, supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating the entry or adding context to the case should be included.

Acting on Insights

Judges will be assessing how well your brand leveraged insights to build a compelling program. Your case must describe how the insights were arrived at, how they informed a new strategy or a new opportunity, and how they were acted upon to drive growth. Please provide results for context on the impact of the new direction.

Awareness & trial breakthrough

A summary video is strongly encouraged to convey the novel nature of the entry, and its shopper marketing industry impact. Supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating the entry or adding context to the case should be included.

Brand new!

Judges will be assessing the shopper engagement success of the entire launch program, so summary videos are encouraged to provide an overview of the program’s innovation, but not mandatory. Supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating the program’s effectiveness or adding context to the case should be included.

Changing behaviour

A summary video is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory. Supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating how the program rolled out and any novel aspects of it, should be included.

CRM & loyalty

In addition to the all-important results, judges will be assessing the innovation and shopper engagement impact of entries, so summary videos are encouraged to provide an overview of the program’s success, but not mandatory. Supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating the program’s effectiveness or adding context to the case should be included.

CSR

A summary video demonstrating your efforts in cause and social responsibility is encouraged, but not mandatory. In addition to innovation and collaboration, judges will be assessing the shopper engagement of entries, so please supply supporting images and active links to any online material that convey the CSR entry impact or add context to the case.

Data

Judges will be assessing how well you incorporated data to improve marketing efficiency. Please describe your innovation in harnessing data and demonstrate how it was used to solve problems, create or evolve programs and achieve goals with greater accuracy and a higher degree of success. Please quantify impact. 

A summary video is permitted, but not mandatory. This story will likely be best told as a written case. 

Experiential

Judges will be assessing how engaging consumers found your brand experience as well as the business impact it made, so establish how your activation contributed to achieving or surpassing campaign goals. 

A summary video demonstrating the immersive aspects of the initiative is strongly encouraged. Supporting images and active links to any online program elements must be included. 

In-store engagement

Judges will be assessing the innovation, collaboration and boundary-pushing nature of entries, so please supply images showing how the environment was utilized to engage shoppers. If complex and multi-element, or if the engagement element was mobile/digital, summary videos are encouraged, but not mandatory.

Omnichannel experience

Entries must provide context on how all elements of the brand's physical and digital shopping experience (ecom, bricks and mortar, fulfillment, CRM, etc.) seamlessly connect for a more engaging customer journey, and how the changes have impacted consumer behaviour, loyalty and results for the brand. Address innovation and market impact. A summary video is strongly encouraged, and supporting assets and active links to any material demonstrating the entry or adding context to the case should be included.

Judges will be assessing innovation, so a summary video demonstrating the breakthrough nature of the retail initiative, as well as shopper impact, is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory. Supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating how the new initiative rolled out and any novel aspects of it, should be included.

Overcoming challenge

Entries must describe the challenge the brand is facing, and supply context on how the program solved problems and drove results. Address innovation, collaboration and impact. Submit material that will enable judges to see how the new approach surmounted issues while reinforcing brand attributes and influencing consumer behaviour. A summary video is strongly encouraged, as well as supporting campaign/program assets and active links to any online material demonstrating the entry or adding context to the case should be included.

Packaging

Judges will be assessing the boundary-pushing nature of entries, so supply visuals of the actual packaging innovation, and images that convey the packaging in situ as well as shopper impact. If complex and multi-element, summary videos are encouraged, but not mandatory.

Partnering

To showcase the boundary-pushing nature of the entry, a summary video demonstrating both sides of the collaboration and shopper impact is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory. Supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating the partnership and any novel aspects of it, or adding context to the case, should be included.

Path to purchase

Entries must entail examples of all the different consumer touch points, with innovation of each iteration addressed. Entrants will be judged on how well the elements work together towards a final shopper goal, so a summary video is strongly encouraged. A brief video of any broadcast element, audio files, supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating the entry or adding context to the case should be included.

PR

Entries must demonstrate the scope of the PR program, and address innovation, collaboration and impact. Submit material that will enable judges to assess the business impact and reach of the PR campaign, and establish to what extent the effort benefits the brand and influences consumer behaviour. Entries must entail examples of all the different program elements included. A summary video is strongly encouraged, and supporting assets and active links to any online material demonstrating the entry or adding context to the case should be included.

Program Design

Judges will be assessing how design thinking and the power of great design had an impact on the success of your program. So establish how your design approach contributed to achieving or surpassing campaign goals. 

A summary video demonstrating the design aspects of the initiative is encouraged, but not mandatory. Supporting images and active links to any online program elements must be included.

Reinvention

A summary video is strongly encouraged to convey the reinvention of the entry, and its shopper marketing industry impact. Supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating the entry or adding context to the case should be included.

ROI

Judges will be assessing how effective your program was compared to prior efforts, so your case must describe how the investment drove exponential volume and outperformed KPIs. Establish that the increase was a result of the program, and acknowledge any external factors that impacted ROI. Please provide year over year results and include category performance metrics for context. Must include an ROI or ROAS calculation; judges will expect to see a return on ad spend figure (the amount of revenue generated per $ spent)

Seasonal & event success

Small budget, big impact

Must include a breakdown of the budget within the written case summary. In addition to the all-important results, judges will be assessing the innovation and any relevant collaboration elements of entries, so summary videos are encouraged to provide an overview of the program’s success, but not mandatory. Supporting images and active links to any online material demonstrating the program’s effectiveness or adding context to the case should be included.

Sponsorship

Judges will be assessing how well you leveraged sponsorship opportunities to build a compelling program that stood out from the competition. Please demonstrate how you uniquely showcased your brand, captured consumer attention and drove sales. If this is a recurring sponsorship please provide results for context on the success of the current program over prior years.

Targeting

Please include any ancillary material required to convey the innovation and effectiveness of your entry. If needed for judges comprehension of the case, a brief summary of either the technology innovation used, or of the research conducted to identify a niche target may be included (200 words max) in addition to the written summary. Images supporting the niche campaign should be included as well as any live URL links to online material. Summary videos are encouraged, but not mandatory.

Tech savvy

Judges will be assessing innovation, collaboration, utility and impact, so a summary video explaining your entry is encouraged. Images that support the written entry will also be accepted. Live URL links to any online material should also be included.

 

 

Rights Clearance

By submitting video, digital or print content, or any forms of entertainemnt, advertising or promotional materials (hereinafter "Content") as part of an entry or entries (as part of an entry or entries (hereinafter "the Entry") to the Shopper Innovation + Activation Awards competition, the entrant company grants permission to Brunico Communications Ltd. (hereinafter "Brunico") to: show, play and/or publicly exhibit the Entry or submitted Content at the awards show; to telecast such awards show; to exhibit and communicate the Entry and submitted Content to the public by telecommunication; to include the Entry and submitted Content in screenings of the award winners' reels on websites operated by Brunico, its affiliates and independent third parties; and to exhibit the Entry and submitted Content in any educational or informational setting; and to charge admission therefore where applicable. The entrant company acknowledges and agrees that Brunico may use the Entry and submitted Content, or any reproduction of the Entry and submitted Content in whole or in part, in telecasts, webcasts, exhibits, books, pamphlets, and other publications or in television broadcasts featuring award entries and for which Brunico may receive compensation. The entrant company holds all necessary rights and/or licences for such aforesaid uses by Brunico of the Entry and submitted Content, including all music and other works contained within the Entry and submitted Content. The entrant shall be responsible and shall hold Brunico, its assignees and licensees harmless for talent and/or other residual fees or claims arising by or due to the uses of the Entry and submitted Content by Brunico as referenced herein. The entrant company submitting the Entry and Content certifies and confirms that it has the full authority to grant the rights to Brunico for the uses referenced herein, on its behalf and on behalf of any client for whome the Content and/or Entry was produced, unless Brunico is otherwise advised in writing at the time the entrant submits the Entry and Content to Brunico.
